Convertibles are usually more expensive than comparable conventional laptops; therefore, they tend to lead a niche existence. The Acer Spin 3 in the SP314-54N-56S5 model is fairly affordable at an MSRP of around 800 Euros (~$953). It definitely doesn't offer high-performance hardware for its price. But with its Intel Core i5-1035G4, Iris Plus Graphics G4, and 8 GB of RAM, it's sufficient for the everyday and usual tasks of a 2-in-1 device such as office and Internet usage. This is especially true, since the device gets the best possible performance out from the built-in hardware in many areas in the test as our benchmarks show.
The performance shown in the test is only sufficient for gaming in exceptional cases and with low requirements. The Acer Spin 3 SP314 has its strengths in other areas. Among other things, the high-quality build and the stylish design of the silver-colored device with its aluminum case are appealing. In addition, it runs pleasantly quiet even under load; it hardly heats up and is equipped with Thunderbolt 3 and Wi-Fi 6.
And as a tablet? Even though the Spin 3 SP314 is not particularly heavy at 1.4 kg, it definitely can't compete with a proper tablet. Consequently, it's more likely to be placed on the lap or on the table instead of being held by hand. Nevertheless, it's pleasantly compact for a device of its class. Moreover, the touchscreen works well in the test.
Overall, the Acer Spin 3 SP314-54N-56S5 is convincing in many aspects considering its price. We would have wished for slightly longer battery life. More impressions, pictures, and benchmark results can be found in our review of the Acer Spin 3 SP314-54N-56S5.
