The Acer Predator Helios 300 offers its user powerful performance paired with a colorful display and a comfortable keyboard. But it might be tough to hand over $1,699 when you’re getting short battery life and crappy speakers. Our advice? Save yourself some money and go with the Strix G15 Advantage ($1,549 - $1,699), which offers over 10 hours of battery life and a more powerful CPU. However, you’ll be missing out on the Predator’s more colorful display and slightly stronger GPU. The Predator Helios 300 is a solid gaming laptop, and is worth considering as long as you’re okay with the poor runtimes and audio.

The Helios 300's ace in the hole is its $1,349 base model, which is still more than capable of 1080p gaming thanks to its GeForce RTX 3060. Its partial metal design, good port selection, and nifty one-button overclocking help it stand out against rivals at that price level. A fine choice, the Predator Helios 300 once again takes our Editors' Choice award among midrange 15.6-inch gamers, while Alienware, with its similarly "modern classic" m15, holds the high ground.

This new RTX 3070-powered Helios 300 is priced at $1,699, which pits it against serious competition. Alienware’s m15 R4 is currently available with similar hardware for about $1,750 on Dell’s official website, while Razer’s Blade 15 is $1,999, again with similar hardware. These laptops are well worth a small increase in price. Then there’s the deep breath Asus ROG Strix G15 AMD Advantage Edition which, despite its long-winded name, can beat the Helios 300’s performance when ray tracing isn’t a concern.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. i7-10750H: A high-performance hexa-core processor designed for use in thicker laptops with room for better thermals. The Comet Lake-H processor is manufactured on the third-gen 14 nm Intel process and features a 24 EU UHD Graphics 630 iGPU clocked at 350 MHz to 1,150 MHz. The CPU cores run at 2.6 GHz (base clock speed) Boosting up to 5.0 GHz and the likely all-core Boost frequency is 4.3 GHz. Hyper-Threading is enabled, allowing two threads to run simultaneously on each core.

Intel Alder Lake-S:

i7-12700H: Alder Lake based mobile CPU with 6 performance cores and 8 efficient cores. The performance cores offer hyper threading, leading to 20 threads that can be processed. The CPU clocks from 1.7 to 4.7 GHz and supports vPro.
