The vast majority of Chrome OS computers come with unimpressive hardware specs. This is how manufacturers are able to keep costs down, and the low retail price of Chromebooks and Chromeboxes is the element that draws in an increasing number of customers to Google's operating system. The new Acer CXI Chromebox doesn't follow this guideline, as it brings much more power than a conventional Chrome OS device. The Acer CXI is the world's first Chromebox with support for 4K external monitors.
The Acer CXI comes with an Intel Core i3 processor from the Haswell generation, 16GB of SSD storage, a microSD card slot, as well as four USB 3.0 ports. Depending on the version, the Acer CXI comes with either 4 or 8GB of RAM. Overall, the Acer CXI should provide the performance required to run through basic tasks with ease.
The Acer CXI will be launched by the end of the month in various Asian markets, at a price of $350 for the version with 4GB of RAM, and $400 for the 8GB version. Although considerably pricier than most Chromeboxes, the Acer CXI also comes with much more processing power. At the moment, the manufacturer has yet to mention a release date or pricing information for the United States.
