Acer Aspire Timeline M3 Ultra - Ultrabook to include an NVIDIA Kepler GPU
According to NVIDIA, the Acer Timeline M3 Ultra will be the world's first Ultrabook to come with a dedicated GPU. The GeForce GT640M will be based on the latest 28nm Kepler GPU architecture and will boast Optimus technology to reduce power consumption. This will keep the M3's thickness to about 0.8-inches even with its dedicated graphics card and will give it an 8 hour battery life as promised by Acer.
NVIDIA also mentions that the M3 will be the first "real Ultrabook" as it will push the limits in all aspects. Current Ultrabooks are not equipped with enough graphics processing power to satisfy gamers and power users. The M3 will have "high-end graphics performance and the best battery life on the planet" according to NVIDIA. This is quite the bold statement considering that most Ultrabooks already have long battery lives with some even more than 8 hours. NVIDIA also states that more Ultrabooks will feature discrete GeForce graphics cards in the near future and that users wouldn't have to compromise multimedia capabilities for portability.
Acer had previously announced hat the 15-inch M3 will resume from sleep in just 1.5 seconds and be able to connect to the internet in 2.5 seconds. It will come with an SSD or with a hybrid hard drive/SSD and an optional DVD burner. The price and screen resolution, on the other hand, have yet to be announced.
