Reviews for the Acer Aspire One 521
Netbook killer. The battery life of a netbook with the performance of a subnotebook. Could the dream be realised for just €329? This 10.1-inch, AMD-based machine begins the assault on Intel’s Pine Trail netbooks. Its weapons: Athlon II Neo, DDR3 RAM, ATI HD 4225 and HDMI.

I've been reviewing netbooks for well over two years at this point, and to be perfectly honest it's starting to get boring. Almost every 10 inch mini-laptop that hits the market these days has the same specs: Intel Atom processor, Intel integrated graphics, Windows 7 Starter Edition, 1GB of RAM, WiFi, and maybe Bluetooth. The Acer Aspire 521 is one of the few netbooks I've tested that really breaks the mold.

What Acer does extremely well is put out aggressively priced netbooks. Though the Acer Aspire One AO521-3782 is clearly not best in class, a $350 price tag could have customers looking past the extra heat and weak speakers, and instead, focusing on the fringe benefits: It has a full size keyboard, better mouse button location, an HDMI port, and some HD benefits with the new AMD parts. If you're looking for an all-around netbook, though, spend an extra $50 and buy the HP Mini 5102 or the Editors' Choice Toshiba mini NB305-N410.

Though, if we had to choose we'd go with the 721 -- for $80 more than the 521 you get more than just a secondary machine with its wider screen and keyboard. Of course, if you consistently demand more than four hours of battery life you'll want to go with an Intel ULV laptop, but most of them cost north of $700. And well, that's exactly what AMD's going for -- Acer now has two incredibly affordable and portable laptops that pack more performance than most netbooks and budget ultraportables on the market.

ATI Radeon HD 4225: Onboard graphics card (in the RS880M chipset) that is able to decode HD videos (thanks to the UVD2). Technically a slower clocked HD 4250.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

K125: Slow entry level single core CPU for small and light laptops. Still faster as 1.6 Ghz Atom based systems.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

This is a standard display format for tablet computers or small convertibles. You see more on the screen than on a smartphone but you can't use big resolutions well. On the other hand, mobility is not a problem.
