Acer is attempting to broaden the appeal of its laptops by launching a host of Aspire ranges, with the 9410 one of the latest. Pros: Great monitor; respectable gaming performance Cons: Gamers will want more graphics power Overall: Impressive entertainment desktop replacement at a very reasonable price, but if you're after performance you might want to wait for the Core 2 Duo notebooks

Acer is attempting to broaden the appeal of its laptops by launching a host of Aspire ranges, with the 9410 one of the latest. Powered by an Intel Core Duo processor, the 9410 performed well in our benchmarking tests. It achieved a Sysmark 2004 SE score of 207 and a PCmark05 score of 3,144, placing it at the top end of our laptop performance chart. Although its speed is impressive, the mobile version of the Core 2 Duo processor (codenamed Merom) is due to launch in August. So if it's performance you're after, we'd recommend holding on to your cash for a few more weeks.

Acer was one of the first vendors to sell laptops with 17in screens. And, we're glad to say, it's come a long way since then. It still sells 17in laptops, but they're a vast improvement on the old models. It's big, but not so big as to be cumbersome. Well-designed and easy to use, the Acer has great features and a good screen. It's just a pity about the graphics.

In the laptop market, there aren't many examples of bigger being better. But even a cursory glance at some of the Aspire 9410's most obvious charms - the 17in glossy TFT, large hard disk and DVD-RAM drive - is enough to warrant a closer look. Even better, the pricing is exceptionally aggressive - less than £800 for this quality of multimedia laptop is the best price we've seen. It's difficult to find a meaningful compromise in this fast, well-configured laptop - it's amazing value for less than £800.

Acer’s silver-and-black Aspire 9410 (400x300x40mm, 3.6kg) is one of the company’s latest range of 17-inch laptops. The others include the Aspire 9400, Aspire 7110 and Aspire 7100 series. All of the families are designed to combine the needs of both home users and office workers, which they do relatively well, but lack a few features which we’d now consider key in a desktop replacement laptop. For the price, the Aspire 9410 meets the criteria for a performance machine. An Intel Core Duo Processor and 1GB of RAM is enough to handle several tasks at the same time, such as running an anti-virus suite, creating a PDF file, and transcoding a video file - which primarily burdens the processor - but power users or those looking for more jazz should probably look elsewhere.

NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300: The NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 is part of the lower performance segment and the competitor card of the ATI X1300. Technically it is simply lower clocked GeForce Go 7300.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Intel Core Duo: Double Core processor with a very good relation of performance to current consumption. The 2 MB L2 Cache are used together by the double. The maximum capacity of 31 watts is only 4 watts more than with the Pentium M (predecessor). Both cores are lowered automatically and independently of each other by speed steps down to 1 GHz. In addition it now supports also SSE3 instructions. At least it is just as fast as a equivalent Pentium M. With applications, which were designed for multi-processors, the performance can be nearly twice as fast as with the Pentium M (e.g. CineBench around 86% fast)

17.10":
This large display size is used for laptops which are mainly intended for an use on a desk.
Large display-sizes allow higher resolutions. So, details like letters are bigger. On the other hand, the power consumption is lower with small screen diagonals and the devices are smaller, more lightweight and cheaper.

This weight is representative for typical laptops with a 14-16 inch display-diagonal.
Acer: The company was founded under the name of Multitech in Taiwan in 1976 and renamed to Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors and televisions. Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell also belong to the Group and sell their own laptops.
While Acer still had the third largest global market share in the notebook segment in 2008, it ranked 6th in 2016 with a market share of 6% after they had continuously lost market shares.
There are dozens of Acer laptop reviews per month, the ratings are average (as of 2016). Gateway, which has an own laptop line-up, has also belonged to the Acer Group since 2007.
81.5%: This rating should be considered to be average. This is because the proportion of notebooks which have a higher rating is approximately equal to the proportion which have a lower rating.
