Archive.org versionThe predecessor to the 5943G was about as a visually exciting as a damp Wednesday, but Acer certainly seems to have learned from its mistakes, because this time around it's come up with a much more striking design. The Acer Aspire Ethos 5943G will make a serious dent in your wallet, but its speedy processor and fast graphics chip deliver top-class performance, although its screen is slightly disappointing.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850:
The HD 5850 is a slower clocked HD 5870 and is reliant on fast GDDR5 memory to perform in the high-end segment. It is based on the Desktop HD 5770 chip but with a lower clock speed.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
740QM:
The Core i7-740QM is a high-end quad-core CPU for laptops (in 2010) with a relative small base clock rate and a high Turbo Boost max frequency of 2.93 GHz (for one core). Therefore, it combines the advantages of a slow clocked quad core CPU with a fast single core one. Compared to the faster Core i7 mobile CPUs, the 740QM only features 6MB L3 Cache.
