Hello, and good bye again. Intel's Sandy Bridge CPUs were slowly finding their way into new notebooks. Among others, Acer's Aspire 5750G, a multimedia all-rounder with a 2630QM quad core and Nvidia GT540M. Beyond that, Nvidia Optimus provides a quiet office use and good battery runtimes. However, we will likely have to wait for a while until the laptop is available in retail.

If you don't want to pay a high price for a high-end processor like the Sandy Bridge Core i7, the Aspire 5750G is a way to get the performance and reasonable battery life, without breaking the budget. You're not paying for unusually fancy design (although we think the blue case is stylish) and you're getting most of what you need, including a decent keyboard and good graphics. The screen is slightly disappointing and we'd like to see more than one USB 3.0 port, but it had the rest of the spec to match the processor you'd be paying rather more than this. This notebook makes Core i7 definitely affordable.

If you want some real processing and graphics firepower without forcing yourself into bankruptcy, the 15.6-inch Acer Aspire 5750G might be just what you're after. The Acer Aspire 5750G's screen could be better and its chassis is plasticky, but this 15.6-inch laptop packs some seriously powerful components for a reasonable price.

The Acer Aspire 5750G (AS5750G-2414G50Mnkk) is a 15.6in laptop designed for home use and it represents good value for money. Basically, what you get in the Aspire 5750G is a nicely designed laptop with good performance and battery life that won't cost you too much money. It retails for $999, but if you shop around you should be able to find it between $800 and $900.

With a three-digit price tag and a 2nd Gen Core i5 CPU, the Aspire 5750G represents good value for money. It does have some drawbacks, such as a glossy screen and it could use a better keyboard and touchpad, but overall it's a nice laptop that would suit home users and students.

The Aspire AS5750G is a great all-round laptop that can handle up-to-date games at higher detail levels with pretty smooth results. Not everything is perfect, we do have some slight niggles - the most notable of which is the rather narrow viewing angle of the display. However, given the performance this laptop represents for the asking price, it's nothing short of superb value for money.

Acer's Aspire AS5750G-9639 is definitely one of the more affordable laptops on the market that comes equipped with a quad core Core i7 processor. Performance is good but it is held back by the relatively modest 500GB hard drive. Along with the new processor, the graphics have also been updated making this laptop capable of PC gaming at modest detail levels.

Boot up I found to be a very acceptable 30 seconds while shutdown was 20 seconds. Sound was excellent and when it first booted I was sure it must be at 100% but it was only at 60% so I turned things down, quality was good from the Dolby speakers. During my general tests I got a tad under six hours when running on batteries, I never skimp of brightness or contrast and that could easily extend to a full working day with a bit or conservatism.

The Acer Aspire AS5750-9851 offers up a powerful Core i7 processor, Acer's own Clear.fi software, and a nice 15.6-inch screen, but that's about it. If features like WiDi 2.0, WiMAX, Blu-ray, and discrete graphics don't matter to you, then the Aspire AS5750-9851 is a good buy. However, for $145 more the Toshiba Satellite P775-S7215 can give you the first three features plus the same processor. For $180 less the Asus U56E-BBL5—the Editors' Choice for budget laptops—can give you WiDi 2.0, WiMAX 4G broadband, and better battery life, but you will be trading in that Core i7 for a Core i5—it all depends on what you value in a laptop.

This Acer doesn't have the fastest processor, and it's battery life isn't quite as good as the very best we've seen. But, for just £430, we'd gladly swap finesse and a little stamina for an almost perfect all-rounder. It isn't flashy in the slightest, but at this price, the Acer Aspire 5750G makes itself worthy of a place on the PC Pro A-List.

The Aspire 5750G comes with a good selection of bundled software for a budget-friendly laptop. First, there’s the 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium operating system, which includes the fine Media Center environment for playing music, watching DVDs and slide shows, and more. Plus, the Acer Clear.fi utility serves as a slick media-file-organization and -playback app, in addition to its sharing functions.

The new entry level. Acer doesn't dare making any extensive experiments on the Aspire 5750G. Rather than installing a GeForce GT 520M or GT 540M, a GeForce 610M, respectively GT 630M is now found under the hood. Will the time-proven 15 inch case nevertheless still be attractive in 2012?

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M:
Mid-range graphics card based on the GT 435M chip (GF108) with higher clock rates and DDR3 support.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M: Entry level graphics card based on the new GF119 chip with a 64 Bit memory bus or on the GF108 with 128 Bit memory bus but lower clock rates.
NVIDIA GeForce 610M: Entry level graphics card based on the older GeForce GT 520M or GeForce GT 520MX.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
Intel HD Graphics 3000: Integrated graphics card in the Intel Sandy Bridge processors (Core ix-2xxx). The HD 3000 is the faster (internally GT2 called) version with 12 Execution Units (EUs).
Intel HD Graphics (Sandy Bridge): Processor graphics card which is integrated in the Sandy Bridge Pentium and Celeron processors. Similar to the desktop HD Graphics 2000 and not related to the old Arrandale processor graphics with the same name.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
2630QM: Fast Quad-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.
Intel Core i3:
2310M:
Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.1 GHz and features the Turbo Boost 2.0 only for the graphics card (650/1100MHz).
2350M:
Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.3 GHz and features the Turbo Boost 2.0 only for the graphics card.
Intel Core i5:
2410M:
Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.3 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.6-2.9 GHz) and the GPU at 650 (1200 MHz Turbo).
2430M: Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.4 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.7-3 GHz) and the GPU at 650 (1200 MHz Turbo).
