A 15-inch laptop, the Acer Aspire 5745G brings a much-needed facelift to Acer's Aspire laptop line. The laptop comes with switchable Nvidia graphics and is a very good contender for a predominant home laptop. The Acer Aspire 5745G laptop is definitely better looking than previous Aspire laptops and sells for a price of £699. For that price, you get a 15-inch laptop that offers a decent balance between performance and features. The laptop has switchable graphics to conserve battery life as well. Unlike the Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG, the Acer Aspire 5745G isn’t the best mainstream laptop for home use, nor does it have the premium feel and extensive features offered by the Dell Studio 15. But the Acer Aspire 5745G is still a pretty good deal and should interest you if you desire better graphics performance than the Dell Studio 15 or a bigger screen than the Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG.

Good performance and battery life are the highlights of this otherwise unremarkable laptop. However, for the money a larger hard drive and more RAM would have been nice, while the design and build quality are average. Overall it does the job, but there are better options available.

The lower battery life is offset somewhat by the rapid overall system performance. With 108 points scored in WorldBench 6, the Acer Aspire 5745G 971096 takes a convincing lead, however we'd like to see better battery life.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M: The Nvidia GeForce GT 330M is the successor of the GT 230M and technically just a slightly higher clocked GT 240M (but it should still maintain the power envelope of the GT 230M as the naming suggests).
NVIDIA GeForce GT 420M: The GT 420M is an GF108 based middle class GPU with DirectX 11 support.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
NVIDIA GeForce 310M: The GeForce 310M is the successor of the GeFore G210M and based on the same chip with very similar clock rates (shader speed +30MHz to 1530MHz).

Intel Core i5:
430M:
The Core i5-430M is a middle class dual core CPU that features only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-640M) and clocks between 2.26-2.53 GHz (Turbo Mode). Furthermore, VT-d, trusted Execution and AES features are missing in the 430M. Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (Intel HD Graphics with 500-733 MHz) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
460M: The Core i5-460M has only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-620M) and clocks between 2.53-2.8 GHz (Turbo Mode). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
450M: Should be similar to the Core i5-520M but without AES functions.

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
75.17%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
