Reviews for the AVADirect Clevo W110ER

80% AVADirect Clevo W110ER

Although the AVADirect Clevo W110ER isn't the quickest in its class, it's still a formidable and highly portable gaming rig that costs less than its competitors, making it a good choice for budget-conscious gamers that place performance over designs. Gamers who have extra cash to spare, though, should stick with Maingear Pulse 11, whose overall faster performance justifies its slightly higher price tag as well as its status as our Editors' Choice for ultraportable gaming laptops.

Your Clevo W110ER buying decision will hinge largely on whether you like its size. The smallish keyboard limits its usefulness as a business laptop, but the display's size didn't seem to be that much of an issue, at least when gaming. It's a bit pricey thanks to its cutting-edge components, but still a compact gamer's delight.

Still, as truly portable options go for the PC gamer, the W110ER is probably at the top of the list. 3.8 pounds beats the hell out of the 8, 10, or even 13 pounds that a traditional gaming laptop saddles you down with. And the $1,354 price tag isn’t obscene, either.

The $1,326 AVADirect Clevo W110ER is proof that you don't need a monster 17-inch gaming rig to get your game on. The 11.6-inch mini rig packs all the specs of the big boys into a seriously portable frame. Our major concerns were the system's heat, as well as its dim screen; the latter can easily be remedied by hooking this notebook to a larger display, though. While pretty evenly matched, we'd give a slight edge to the Eurocom Monster, which provides even more power for $100 more. However, both companies offer a plethora of customization options, which should satisfy any gamer looking for a highly portable powerhouse.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M: A mid-range GPU and the fastest GeForce GT as part of the 600M series

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

3610QM:

An Ivy Bridge-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.3 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.3 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4000 GPU running at 650-1100 MHz on a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.

11.60":

This is a standard display format for tablet computers or small convertibles. You see more on the screen than on a smartphone but you can't use big resolutions well. On the other hand, mobility is not a problem.

72.5%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
