AMD, much like Intel, announced a long list of confusingly named laptop processors at CES 2023. They were spearheaded by the high-end Ryzen 9 7945HX, Ryzen 9 7845HX, and other HX-class processors, presumably as an answer to Intel's Raptor Lake-HX lineup. The penultimate Ryzen 9 7845HX has now been tested on PassMark (H/T Videocardz).
The AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX now comfortably sits on top of PassMark's charts, scoring 46,791. It represents a near-90% generation-over-generation over the last gen's flagship, the Ryzen 9 6900HX (24,640). Its older sibling, the Ryzen 9 7945HX, could widen the gap even further and offer double the performance. This should come as some relief for Team Red enthusiasts, as the Phoenix-based Ryzen 9 7940HS didn't perform nearly as well.
While the AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX successfully dethroned the Alder Lake-based Core i9-12900HX (35,628) to become the king of PassMark, the situation could change in the coming weeks once Raptor Lake laptops start hitting the market. Currently, the only Raptor Lake mobile part on the list is the Core i5-13500H (24,074), and it'll be interesting to see how its HX-branded siblings perform.
