2022 MacBook Air release date seemingly confirmed with pre-orders starting a week before
While the new 13-inch Apple MacBook Pro with M2 has somewhat divided opinion, with its dated looks and SSD controversy casting a bit of a pall over its generally positive reception, there are still huge expectations in place for the upcoming 2022 MacBook Air. Not only does this latter laptop feature the same M2 chip with a choice between an 8-core GPU part or 10-core GPU part, where the new Apple silicon has already been particularly praised, but it also features a considerable redesign in comparison to the 2020 MacBook Air with M1 chip.
We have already reported about a tip that pre-orders for the new MacBook Air would begin on July 8 with the laptop appearing on shelves at retailers on July 15, and these dates may have been confirmed by “accident” by none other than Marques Brownlee in a video review for the Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro. While testing out the phone’s touch responsiveness, Brownlee scrolls through a calendar that reveals some very interesting information. As spotted by eagle-eyed observers like Michael Burkhardt, it seems the TechTuber has an “Apple MBA briefing” to attend to on July 7 while there’s a note made on July 14 for “MacBook Air Embargo”. (Check around the 2:26 point in the embedded video below.)
These calendar entries lend plenty of weight to the belief that the 2022 Apple MacBook Air will be available for pre-orders a day after the briefing, so on July 8, while the laptop will be officially released a day after the review embargo, therefore on July 15. It seems unlikely an experienced professional like Brownlee would have made such a huge mistake to leak the M2 MacBook Air’s release date without the go-ahead from Cupertino, so it’s more likely the host deliberately provided viewers with an “Easter egg”, knowing that it would certainly add to the hype that is already building over the new MacBook Air’s upcoming retail launch.
