YouTube Premium Family plan goes up to US$22.99 per month

Google continues its struggle to optimize the revenue generated by YouTube, but this time it looks like we are no longer talking about mere tests. Although many users have not received any notification yet, YouTube Premium Family subscribers in some markets are facing a sharp price increase of their monthly subscription fee.

Multiple YouTube Premium Family subscribers have recently revealed that they received emails concerning the price bump of their service from US$17.99 to US$22.99. Even some grandfathered customers who are currently paying US$14 or less will have their subscription cost pushed up to US$22.99. However, the YouTube subscription cost is different depending on the market, and it looks like those who were paying less are safe from the price increase for now.

In Romania, for example, the YouTube Premium Family plan costs RON 26, which is the equivalent of less than US$8 per month. For now, it seems that the email carrying the bad news has not arrived yet. Since the Romanian market mostly consists of non-subscribers, those who choose to pay for YouTube Premium Family will probably stay on the excellent deal currently available for a while.

YouTube Premium Family allows to add up to 5 family members. In addition to the ad-free YouTube experience, the subscription also includes access to YouTube Music Premium, as well as downloading videos for offline viewing. For now, the new price is listed for US-based visitors of the website, but YouTube users in other areas still see the previous price (Romania's case mentioned above, plus Germany, where the price shown at the time of publishing is €17.99).
