Wyze releases Wyze Cam v4 wireless security camera adding wider dynamic range imaging, better audio, and built-in siren
Wyze has launched the Wyze Cam v4 wireless security camera as the follow up to its 2022 Wyze Cam v3 Pro. The company’s security cameras have been a popular alternative in America to the more expensive Ring cameras due to low prices, and the v4 is priced at $35.98.
Differences of note include:
- Wide dynamic range video recordings
- 85% heavier than Wyze Cam V3 Pro
- Wi-Fi 6 instead of 802.11n wireless
- Supports micro SD cards up to 512 GB instead of 256 GB
- Louder 99 dB speaker and improved microphone pickup
- Adds siren
Other features are quite similar to the prior model.
The Starlight CMOS sensor can record color videos day or night, or black and white infrared videos at night. The resolution of the video is 2560 x 1440 with wide dynamic range at 20 fps during the day or 15 fps during the night. In low-light, the v5 color night vision is lit by two 72 lumen LED spotlights or four 850 nm IR LEDs. The lens captures a 98.5 degree horizontal field of view and 53.1 degree vertical field of view. The camera can be used outdoors with an IP65 water resistance rating.
The Wyze Cam v4 has unlimited cloud recording and AI person/object detection only with a subscription, otherwise it has continuous loop recording to a micro SD card up to 512 GB with basic motion detection. The camera does not have RTSP support. The security camera connects wirelessly over Bluetooth 5.2 or 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 6. The camera measures 2 x 2 x 2 3/8 inch (51.4 x 51.4 x 61.0 mm), weighs 0.49 lb. (222 gr), and requires a 5V 1A micro USB power supply.
The Wyze Cam v4 is compatible with the Wyze Lamp Socket, Wyze Cam Window Mount, Wyze Cam Outdoor Adapter v1 and v2, and Wyze microSD cards (up to 512 GB). It is incompatible with the Wyze Cam Floodlight v1, Wyze Spotlight Kit, Wyze Garage Door Controller, and Wyze Solar Panel.
Readers should keep in mind that criminals are becoming more sophisticated and now using Wi-Fi jammers to disable wireless security cameras. While expensive, a wired security system attached to a uninterruptable power supply is immune to such attacks.
