Activision has delivered one of the most requested features in Call of Duty: Warzone with the launch of Season 3. Starting April 3, console players will have better control over crossplay matchmaking, finally allowing them to avoid PC players in standard multiplayer modes. This is a major quality-of-life tweak that addresses years of community backlash regarding unfair advantages and cheating concerns associated with PC crossplay.
The update introduces a completely revamped crossplay system with three distinct settings across different game modes -
- Full Crossplay (On): Maintains the current system, matching players across all platforms
- Console-Only (On): Restricts matchmaking exclusively to PlayStation and Xbox players
- Platform-Specific (Off): Limits matches to players on your exact console family
These options are now separately configurable for Multiplayer Ranked Play, Warzone Ranked Play, and Unranked Multiplayer modes (which includes Quickplay, Featured, and Party Games).
Furthermore, the new system adapts to party compositions -
- Pure console parties maintain the leader's preferred settings
- Mixed console groups automatically upgrade to "Console-Only" crossplay
- Parties, including PC players, temporarily enable full crossplay
All adjustments are automatically reverted when the party disbands. Players can find these options in the Network Settings menu. While the option to avoid PC matchmaking may lengthen queue times, many console players will likely consider this a worthwhile trade-off for more balanced matches.
The crossplay changes arrive alongside the highly anticipated return of the classic Verdansk map. As mentioned, season 3 of Call of Duty: Warzone goes live on April 3 at 9 AM PST / 5 PM BST, where players can finally take a look at the new additions.
