The Toshiba Satellite E105 commands the price of a high-end "almost business" notebook, but doesn’t offer the level of performance or build quality you would find from a machine in that category. The aluminum chassis sounds great on paper but it suffered from fit and finish problems that you wouldn’t find for example in an Apple MacBook. Features like the built-in FM tuner could have been better integrated, instead of using the plug-in boom antenna that sticks out of the side of the notebook. If the price was lower and the build quality improved it would be a nice alternative from other Toshiba Satellite notebooks, but in its current form it is hard to recommend against other notebooks in the Toshiba lineup.

Toshiba's Satellite E105-S1402 laptop does an extremely good job at providing solid performance and battery life. The stylish aluminum clad 14.1-inch laptop looks and feel better than most laptops with their plastic cases but the keyboard and cases exhibit too much flex making it feel a little less sturdy. Overall, it is a decent system for those that are concerned about performance and battery life but don't need 3D graphics performance or many peripherals.

It has some nice feature points, the design is cohesive with modern minimalism, and the backlit keyboard is more than a welcomed addition. However, sometimes you need to think things through a bit instead of just throwing features on (or off) a laptop and consider it “what the public asked for...”. I feel like that with this model, as it stands it could have used a bit more thought. For the price, I can't say that the feature set won't be worth it to some, but there are quite a few laptops out there that have similar specifications (or better) and are only missing one or two of the feature points this carries – for far less.

In addition to the extended warranty, the E105 includes a 12-month subscription to Norton Internet Security 2008, as opposed to the 60-day trial we are used to seeing. It also comes with Ulead DVD Movie Factory 5, a great program for making home movies. The Satellite E105-S1402 is good for the price and includes some welcome touches for buyers set on a 14.1-inch thin-and-light. You’d be hard-pressed to find another system with these features at this weight and price, but we recommend trying out the keyboard and speakers before you buy. If those pass muster, you won’t be disappointed.

The 14.1-inch Toshiba Satellite E105 is a solid all-around laptop that delivers on Best Buy's Blue Label promises: longer battery life, lightweight design, and lengthy warranty.

We generally like the Toshiba Satellite E105-S1402, and it’s a good first step for Best Buy’s Blue Label program. You get good battery life without having an awkward extended battery hanging off the back of the system, the backlit keyboard is a nice touch, and there’s plenty of horsepower for running Vista. However, the design isn’t for everyone, and the quality of the keyboard isn’t top-notch. For a sleeker design and better graphics performance, you might want to take a look at the baseline 13.1-inch MacBook ($1,299). Or you could opt for a similarly configured HP Pavilion dv4t with a 12-cell battery. But the E105 is a pretty good choice for shoppers looking for a full-featured mobile system.

When Best Buy introduced its Blue Label laptops from HP and Toshiba last year, the machines featured thin and lightweight designs, long battery life, backlit keyboards, and two-year warranties. These were features Best Buy shoppers had put at the top of their laptop wish lists in a customer survey. This year's version of Toshiba's Blue Label laptop, the Satellite E105-S1602 adds another feature that's sure to be a hit with laptop buyers: recession pricing.
Toshiba improves on last year's excellent Best Buy Blue Label laptop by slashing the price while serving up a nearly identical machine. Long battery life, a lengthy warranty, and a backlit keyboard highlight Toshiba's winning Satellite E105-S1602.80

Toshiba's latest Blue Label laptop from Best Buy, the Satellite E105-S1802, is an exact replica of the company's earlier Satellite E105-S1602 model with one major and one minor exception. The big move is with the OS, trading Vista for Windows 7. Much less significant is a slight update to the processor, moving from the Core 2 Duo P7350 to the P7450. As a general purpose productivity machine, the Toshiba Satellite E105-S1802 strikes a number of right notes. Its dreadful speakers, however, limit its entertainment value

Toshiba: Toshiba Corporation is a Japanese conglomerate or technology group. The company was established in 1939 and in 1978 Toshiba became the official company name. The company's products and services include power, industrial and social infrastructure systems, elevators and escalators, electronic components, semiconductors, hard drives, printers, batteries, lighting, logistics and information technology. Toshiba was one of the largest manufacturers of personal computers, consumer electronics, home appliances and medical equipment.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Onboard (shared Memory) GPU built in the GM45, GE45 and GS45 chipset (Montevina). Because of two more shaders and a higher core clock, much faster than the old GMA X3100. Still not advisable for gamers (DirectX 10 games not playable or only with very low settings). The integrated video processor is able to help decode HD videos (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) , e.g., for a fluent Blu-Ray playback with slow CPUs.

Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).
The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.
P8400:
Middle class dual core CPU with a TDP of 25 Watt. For high end gamer the performance could be not sufficient (for class 1 graphic cards).
P7350:
Entry level Core 2 Duo processor with 3 MB Level 2 Cache and due to the 25 Watt TDP also suited for 13" laptops.
P7450: Entry level Core 2 Duo processor with 3 MB Level 2 Cache and due to the 25 Watt TDP also suited for 13" laptops.

70%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
