The PlayStation 5 (currently $418 on Amazon) continues to be one of the best-selling gaming consoles in 2025. According to recent reports, it has likely sold several million units more than the Xbox Series X/S. However, while the Xbox offers the convenience of a built-in browser, the PlayStation 5 does not. Sony’s official explanation is that a browser could expose the system to potential exploits.
However, even though you can't directly access the web browser on Sony, it still exists, just buried deep within the settings menu. Now, a Reddit user has discovered a way to unlock the PS5’s hidden web browser using Minecraft. In a post titled “How to access the web on PS5 (requires Minecraft)” posted on r/playstation, u/NathnDele walks viewers through the process step by step.
To confirm it actually works, I tried the method on my own PS5, and I can assure you, it does. The steps are as followed: You first need to open Minecraft on your PS5, then your need to go and enter the in-game store through the start menu.
Here, you'll see multiple tiles of various collaborations currently happening in Minecraft. For example, one with Sonic, another with the Smurfs, and so on. You just need to click on any one of these tiles. After that, in the new menu, the same tile will appear with a Play logo on it. Click on it, and YouTube will open in the PS5 web browser.
From there, click on "Sign in" in the top-right corner, then select "Terms," scroll all the way down, and click on "Google." And just like that, you can start browsing on your PS5.
At the time of writing, other methods to access the web browser on the PlayStation 5 also exist. Still, it’s always good to have an extra method in your pocket in case Sony decides to disable the existing ones.
