The next Professor Layton game has been delayed and will be released in 2026

Fans of Professor Layton are facing some very bad news. The next game in the series, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, will not be released until 2026 on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Although it was last seen at the Tokyo Game Show in 2025 with the release of a new trailer, fans were eagerly awaiting the chance to play it and solve its many puzzles. However, this will not be the case for several months, as Japanese studio Level-5 has announced that the game will be released in 2026 in order to deliver it in the best possible conditions, as can be seen in the following statement: 

"Level5 Inc. would like to begin by offering its sincere apologies to all fans who have been looking forward to the release of Professor Layton and the New World of Steam. Although the release was originally scheduled for 2025, in order to deliver the game in the best possible form, the launch has been rescheduled for 2026. We deeply regret any inconvenience this delay may cause and greatly appreciate your understanding and continued support."

Needless to say, this is a real blow for fans of the franchise, especially considering that the last game in the series was released in 2013. But it seems that this delay is necessary in order to release the game in the best possible conditions and to ensure that it meets players expectations. Thus, it will be necessary to remain attentive to the studio’s upcoming announcements to know the release date of Professor Layton and the New World of Steam on the Nintendo Switch 2.
