The new Samsung 9 series ultrapotable is oh so gorgeous - and fast

Teaser
The sleek 9 series seems to be on steroid, without being dizzy

Samsung unveiled the new 9 series ultraportable that wants to give you a lot of both worlds – look and muscle power. The sample Laptopmag got their hands on was sleek and sexy, sleeker than a Macbook Air at just .64 inches thick. That contributed to it being slightly lighter as well, at 2.89 pounds (about 1.31 kg) compared to Mac Air’s 2.9 pound.

Exterior

The 9 series is made of Duralumin, a material used in building aircrafts and is twice as durable as almuinum. No wonder it felt solid in the reviewer’s hand. It has a brilliant rugged brushed metal look both outside as well as in the palm-rest area. Open the lid and you should be greeted with the brilliant Superbright plus display, emitting 400 nits of brightness –as reported by Laptopmag.

The chiclet-style keyboard looked comfortable although it could have been stressed till the edges on both left and right. A big trackpad resides just below it with integrated mouse-buttons. The buttons felt natural during the reviewer’s tapping.

Guts

You will be even more pleased with what is inside.  A second-generation low-voltage core i5 processor greets you along with Intel’s advanced HD graphics card. There is a huge 128GB SSD for all your storage purposes. For connectivity you have USB 3.0, Wi-Fi and WiMAX among other popular options.

Samsung promises up to 6.5 hours of life on one recharge, which looks possible considering its size and the low-voltage processor.

Pricing and availability

At $1599, this is certainly not the cheapest computer, but if you ever loved the Mac Air so much, but wanted a Windows alternative – this is your pick.
