Samsung to ramp up laptop shipments for 2011

Teaser
The South Korean corporation plans to increase laptop shipments by 60 percent this year

In an attempt to become an even larger global notebook brand, Samsung will proceed this year to increase its notebook shipments by 60 percent, enough for the company to jump from its current 8th place on the list of largest worldwide notebook providers to 7th place. The dramatic increase in laptop shipments will mean a whopping 16 to 17 million new units this year compared to the more meager 10 million of the year before. If all moves as planned, Samsung will push Apple down one spot from the list and subsequently gain additional leverage in the crowded laptop market.

Samsung this year had a number of impressive gadgets at CES to prove its competitiveness. Among them are the 10-inch Sliding PC 7 tablet and the razor-thin Samsung 9 notebook. These portables will be based on the Intel Oak Trail and Sandy Bridge platforms, respectively, and both devices are expected to release later this year.
