Tesla is becoming a less-loved brand in Canada as the organizers of a popular auto show kicked it out of their event. According to the executive director of the Vancouver Auto Show, Eric Nicholls,
The Vancouver Auto Show’s primary concern is the safety of attendees, exhibitors, and staff. This decision will ensure all attendees can be solely focused on enjoying the many positive elements of the event.
The American carmaker was informed it would not be allowed to participate in this year’s edition of the show, citing potential trouble from protesters expressing their displeasure at the company and CEO Elon Musk. Tesla reportedly refused to withdraw willingly from the event despite being repeatedly invited to do so.
Tesla has been facing pushback in Canada, where a series of “Tesla Takedown” protests have been arranged. The organizers urge Tesla owners to sell their cars and stockholders to divest. B.C. Hydro, a government-affiliated utility company in British Columbia, dropped Tesla from the list of brands qualifying for its electric vehicle rebate scheme to promote Canadian products.
Tension remains high between Canada and the US. Musk has emerged as a key figure in the American administration imposing tariffs on neighboring countries. Due to this association, Tesla has been facing vandalism in its assets globally.
