Steam has posted the results of its October hardware survey. Not much has changed on the hardware front, with Intel CPUs continuing to dominate AMD in a 66%-33% split. Unfortunately, we do not get a model-by-model breakdown like we do with GPUs. Intel likely dominates the segment due to its overwhelming majority in the laptop market.
Additionally, xx60 class GPUs continue to be popular with gamers, with the GeForce RTX 3060 topping the charts in desktop and the GeForce RTX 4060 in laptops. Its desktop version isn't too far behind and will eventually catch up. Interestingly, the two-generation-old GeForce RTX 1650 is fourth on the list ahead of the much more powerful RTX 2060.
Team Red's offerings are, unsurprisingly, lower down on the list. The first instance is that of an unspecified Radeon GPU, likely the 780M. The first dGPU we see is the Radeon RX 6600 followed by the Radeon RX 580. Interestingly, Nvidia's flagship GeForce RTX 4090 sits above both of AMD's offerings, while AMD's own Radeon RX 7900 XTX sits below the aged GeForce RTX 1650 Super.
Windows 11 continues to be the most widely used operating system and 1080p seems to be the preferred resolution. Despite the Steam Deck's popularity, Linux users make up a paltry 2% of the overall demographic. These trends will likely stay the same until early 2025. After that, we could see a gradual shift once new hardware from Intel, Nvidia and AMD is out and about.
