Squid Game meets The Typing of the Dead. Players must type fast or die trying in this upcoming battle-royale-style thriller now open for playtesting on Steam.

Developed by Button Mash and published by Polden Publishing, Final Sentence is a “Battle Royale on typewriters.” Dozens (40 to 100) of players are locked in a hangar, each with a typewriter in front of them, and a revolver pointed at their heads with one bullet in the chamber. Typing accuracy and speed literally become their lifeline: mistakes can cost a life, and only one person can walk away.

Players can also compete in smaller, private matches of 4 or 8 players if they prefer more controlled duels. On top of that, the game promises deep stats, a ranked system, and metrics that lets players track and compare their typing performance with others.

As of now, the game is slated for release in Q4 2025 and supports multiple languages for interface, audio, and subtitles (e.g. English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese). Minimum PC specs are modest: Windows 10, 8 GB RAM, a baseline GPU (e.g. GTX 460).

Final Sentence’s blend of accessibility, requiring only a keyboard and quick thinking, its “type fast or die” gameplay, and its battle-royale competitive formula, place it firmly in a unique and enticing category of its own. For those interested in testing their mettle (and typing speed), Final Sentence is currently open for playtest access requests via Steam.

For those who miss out on the playtest, a demo is also set to release soon. Players can expect the core experience to remain intact in the demo, while lacking access to leaderboards, statistics among friends, and rewards for completed texts, according to the demo's Steam page. The demo itself is available to Wishlist for a notification upon demo release.
