Sony unveils the GP-VPT3, a versatile mini tripod and camera grip with a detachable Bluetooth remote, designed for its mirrorless and point-and-shoot cameras.

Sony has announced the GP-VPT3, a mini tripod compatible with its line of mirrorless and point & shoot cameras. The combination tripod can also be used as a camera grip for on-the-go vlogging.

A detachable Bluetooth remote control RMT-VP2 lets photographers control their cameras from afar. Its 33 ft. (10 m) range is powered by a single CR2032 lithium coin battery. The control has shutter, record, C1, and autofocus on buttons. The rocker can control the lens zoom or focus, which is selected by a mode switch. The rocker supports two-step variable zoom speeds.

A mounted camera can be panned 360°, and tilted -90° to +80° in grip mode and -90° to +40° in tripod mode. The sturdy tripod has a dust and moisture resistant design that supports cameras up to 53 oz (1.5 kg). It has an operating temperature range of -10 °C to +50 °C (14 °F to 122 °F).

Folded, the GP-VPT3 measures 49.5 x 173.0 x 39.8 mm (2 x 6 7/8 x 1 5/8 in.) and weighs 179 g (6.4 oz.). The tripod grip will begin shipping in June for $159.99. Readers looking for a nice, long-zoom compact camera to use with the GP-VPT3 can consider the Sony RX100 VII sold on Amazon.
