Sony begins teasing its Xperia Mark III smartphones ahead of April 14 launch
April 14 will mark the arrival of new Xperia smartphones, with Sony having confirmed that it will host a launch event at 07:30 UTC (JST 16:30). Sony is expected to reveal at least the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 10 III, although renders of both smartphones have already leaked. Even a case manufacturer has revealed Xperia 1 III and Xperia 10 III, albeit possibly while relying on renders published by OnLeaks.
Regardless, Sony has now started teasing the release of Mark III smartphones on its YouTube channel. Neither video reveals any details about any forthcoming Xperia devices, but the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 10 III will probably look like their predecessors. There is a teaser photo that we have included above, which is difficult to make out. However, we suspect that this is the Xperia 1 II rather than the new Mark III model.
Based on past rumours and leaks, Sony has equipped the Xperia 1 III with a Snapdragon 888 SoC, along with a 4K and 120 Hz display. There should be at least 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage too, which should make the Xperia 1 III competitive with other flagships released this year. Additionally, the Xperia 1 III should feature better cameras than its predecessor, including a periscope camera. Meanwhile, the Xperia 10 III is believed to be another mid-range offering, albeit with the same 6.0-inch display as the current model has.
