Snapdragon X2 Elite: Leaker reveals Qualcomm's plans for 64 GB RAM options ahead of schedule

Qualcomm has not confirmed when it will be officially unveiling its next-generation laptop chipsets yet. Instead, it has revealed the date of this year's Snapdragon Summit, which will last two days between September 23 and September 25 in Hawaii. Nonetheless, it seems likely that Qualcomm will use the event to present not just the Snapdragon X Elite 2, but also the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and less powerful alternatives.

In the meantime, Roland Quandt has shared new details about Qualcomm's flagship laptop chipset. According to the leaker, Qualcomm is still developing it under the model number SC8480XP, which was first seen in September last year. More recently, Quandt claimed to have seen evidence of SC8480XP being tested with 48 GB of RAM, which would have been shy of the 64 GB maximum with which one can currently configure Snapdragon X Elite laptops like the Surface Laptop 7 (curr. $659 on Amazon - refurbished) in certain markets.

However, 48 GB of RAM may not be the top RAM configuration for the so-called SD X2 Elite or Snapdragon X2 Elite. Now, Quandt reports that Qualcomm is actively testing 64 GB RAM options, which remains rare on Windows laptops outside of workstations and gaming laptops. Currently, Quandt believes that the Snapdragon X2 Elite is 'more and more' looking like an 18-core SoC for a 50% CPU core count jump from the Snapdragon X Elite.
