Samsung TV services face widespread outage, streaming apps stop working for users globally

Samsung TV users across the United States, India, and other regions experienced a major service outage today, which left a lot of users unable to access apps like Netflix, YouTube, and Peacock. The issue began around the late hours of July 31/early August 1, and it caused thousands of users to report problems on platforms like DownDetector and social media.
According to outage data, reports spiked between 3:30 PM and 8:30 PM PDT on July 31, with over 2,500 incidents logged at the peak. Affected users shared screenshots of error messages and factory reset screens, believing their devices were faulty before learning the outage was server-side. Comments on Reddit, Twitter (X), and other platforms also reflected the wide impact of this outage.
A Reddit thread on r/youtube indicated that while most apps were down, Netflix appeared to be working for some users, likely because it runs on its own independent servers. Fortunately, some other users confirmed regional recovery in places like India and Southern California by mid-morning.
DownDetector’s metrics further show that 79% of complaints were app-related, followed by login issues and website access problems. The issue seems to stem from a shared backend or cloud-based infrastructure failure, though Samsung has yet to issue any formal statement.
As of writing, services are gradually coming back online in several areas, but users are still reporting residual issues such as app logins, DNS configuration problems, and missing app installations.
