Google's latest software update for Pixel devices is now live. It brings Circle to Search to the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, along with the ability to upload 10-bit HDR 10 photos to Instagram. The Pixel Watch also gets a bunch of new exercise-related features.

So far, Google has done a stellar job of keeping Pixel smartphones up to date with new features via the Pixel Feature Drop. In January, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro got the recently-announced Circle to Search feature that debuted alongside the Galaxy S24 (curr. $699 on Amazon) series. As promised earlier, it has now trickled down to the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro along with a handful of new features for other Pixel-branded devices. Circle to Search doesn't work on my Pixel 7 Pro for some reason, but your mileage may vary.

You can now upload 10-bit HDR photos from your smartphone to Instagram without any loss in quality. However, it is only applicable for the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Fold. People who own a Pixel 6 (and newer) in the US can now prompt callers to speak while using the Call Screen feature via a card. You can also share a portion of your screen instead of the whole thing on the Pixel 5a and newer devices. Pixel Tablet owners who use the voice keyboard can now get extra screen real estate thanks to the keyboard minimizing when the feature is active.

Google also has a few goodies in store for Pixel Watch owners. For starters, the workout user interface gets a visual rehaul with larger text and brighter colours, making it easier for you to peek at your watch without interrupting your workout. The Pixel Watch now also shows heart rate zones, allowing you to adjust your exercise intensity to align with heart rate goals. A notification can be sent while transitioning from one zone to another (Zone 1 to Zone 2, etc.)

Additionally, you can set pace goals in your Pixel Watch, which will then notify you about your progress towards your milestone. You'll get a notification should you deviate from the pre-configured pace. The Pixel Watch will automatically start and end workouts based on your heart rate and other parameters. The list of activities is limited for now and includes walking, running, elliptical, bicycle (indoor and outdoor) and treadmill. Lastly, the Pixel Watch can now direct you to the nearest public transit locations. Users with LTE-enabled variants can start a trip directly from the watch, while the non-LTE version will require it to be done from a smartphone.

The March Pixel Feature Drop comes bundled with Google's March 2024 Android security patch. It will be available OTA for Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7, Pixel 7a, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6, Pixel 6a and Pixel 5a. Alternatively, you can sideload it via ADB by downloading the corresponding system image from Google Developers' website.
