The Oppo A5x is a new smartphone that's supposedly resistant to dust, water and shouldn't be terminally damaged if dropped. Unfortunately, the handset sports some rather outdated specifications otherwise.
Oppo has listed the new A5x (CPH2725) smartphone on its international website. It's currently unclear if the device will ever launch in Europe or North America, a corresponding release date or price aren’t available either. That said, the smartphone measures about 6.5 x 3 x 0.3 inches. It has an IP65 certification, suggesting it should be protected against damage from dust and water. Additionally, it shouldn’t immediately suffer damage and a shattered screen if dropped.
In terms of specifications, the new Oppo phone isn’t really up to speed. For example, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1 processor doesn’t support 5G networks and has to fall back on 4G LTE. The A5x is apparently offered in different versions with various LTE bands, which would suggest an international release in more than just one region. Dual SIM cards are supported as well.
Furthermore, the rugged smartphone is equipped with a 6.67-inch LC display with a peak brightness of 1,000 nits, a resolution of only 720 x 1604 pixels and refresh rate of 90Hz. Depending on the model variant, the Oppo A5x comes with 4, 6, or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, while the UFS 2.1 storage offers either 64 or 128GB of capacity.

I have been active as a journalist for over 10 years, most of it in the field of technology. I worked for Tom’s Hardware and ComputerBase, among others, and have been working for Notebookcheck since 2017. My current focus is particularly on mini PCs and single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi – so in other words, compact systems with a lot of potential. In addition, I have a soft spot for all kinds of wearables, especially smartwatches. My main profession is as a laboratory engineer, which is why neither scientific contexts nor the interpretation of complex measurements are foreign to me.

My fascination for technology goes back a long way to the Pentium II era. Modding, overclocking and treasuring computer hardware has since become an integral part of my life. As a student, I further developed a keen interest in mobile technologies that can make the stressful college life so much easier. After I fell in love with the creation of digital content while working in a marketing position, I now scour the web to bring you the most exciting topics in the world of tech. Outside the office, I’m particularly passionate about motorsports and mountain biking.
