OnePlus has finalised some of the changes that it will be adding to OxygenOS. The new features have been whittled to seven from thousands of community suggestions, and include a proper dark mode, not a dark grey mode as is currently available on OxygenOS 11.

OnePlus has chosen adopted several features from its IDEAS 2.0 community platform, where it encourages fans of OxygenOS to submit suggestions for improving the OS. The OnePlus community submitted 7,303 ideas, from which OnePlus has adopted seven.

OnePlus will now invite those who won an Adopted Ideas award to work with its product team to bring their idea to fruition. OnePlus stresses that it still needs to finalise 'detailed requirements, from prototype to verification' for each idea, so it may be a while yet before we see the company adding them to OxygenOS. Accordingly, OnePlus has not offered any timescales for implementing the seven features in its OS. The seven ideas are as follows:

  1. Add an FPS counter option to Game Space
  2. Separate volume for each app and allow dual media playback
  3. Lockscreen customisation
  4. Wireless file transfer from PC to OnePlus devices and vice-versa
  5. Power Diet — an aggressive battery saving mode that would greatly extend the battery life of OnePlus devices by limiting most non-essential apps and features
  6. Black, instead of the current grey, dark mode or an option to switch between either
  7. Partial screenshot

OnePlus has also announced some of the submissions that it rejected. The company has explained why it decided against adopting sixteen other features, too. You can read the reasons that OnePlus gave for not adopting these ones on the OnePlus Forums:

  1. Hole punch camera notification alerts
  2. Desktop mode
  3. Work with social media companies to improve camera optimisation
  4. iOS 14 back tap gestures
  5. Preventing screen burn-in by subtle pixel shifting
  6. Customisable battery charge level
  7. Dual audio in Bluetooth
  8. Fingerprint customisation
  9. Notification ring
  10. Improve the image processing
  11. Animations during accessory pairing and connecting
  12. Navigation bar customisations
  13. Replace the Google dialer with OnePlus dialer
  14. Notification count on icons (App badges)
  15. Battery health
  16. Classic layout on OxygenOS 11
