Dynabook is promising up to 13 hours of battery life and an optional Dynabook USB-C Dock when the redesigned Tecra A40 becomes available in the coming weeks.

Now that Toshiba has spun off its laptop business, Dynabook has been slowly but surely refreshing older Toshiba Tecra and Portege laptops to bring them up to spec with the latest hardware and features. The Toshiba Tecra A40 was announced four years ago in 2015 and now Dynabook will be reintroducing the Tecra A40 with new processors and a new look.

The most noticeable change will be the size and weight of the refreshed Tecra A40. While the 2015 version was 23.8 mm thick and 1.8 kg, the 2019 version will be just 19.9 mm thick and 1.47 kg. USB Type-C now comes standard in addition to the Intel 8th gen Core i5-8250U.

Unfortunately, a few relics remain. The base wireless is only an Intel 8265 instead of the faster Intel 9560 or AX200. Charging is done with a proprietary 45 W AC adapter instead of relying on the more universal USB Type-C port. These drawbacks are understandable since the Tecra series is designed to be more affordable than the higher-end Portege series.

Expect the Dynabook Tecra A40 to begin shipping this November for a starting price of $900 USD.
