Mods are fan-made additions or changes to games that can introduce new content, enhance graphics or even transform the gameplay entirely. But installing them isn’t always straightforward. Many mods need to be placed manually into specific game folders. If files end up in the wrong location or something gets overwritten by mistake, the game might crash or fail to launch. On top of that, some mods are only compatible with certain game versions – so when a game updates, a mod might suddenly stop working.
GOG, known for offering DRM-free games without mandatory online access, has launched a new one-click mod feature. This system allows players to install mods with a single click – no need to dig through folders or move files manually. Mods are automatically placed in the correct directories, and the system checks for compatibility with the game version. Mod updates are also easier to manage. The only drawback is that the feature currently supports only a limited selection of games and mods.
- Doom 3 - Mod: Phobos
- Fallout 4 - Mod: Fallout: London
- Gothic 2 - Mod: The Chronicles Of Myrtana: Archolos
- Heroes of Might and Magic 3 - Mod: Horn of the Abyss
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Mod: Enderal: Forgotten Stories
- Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines - Mod: Unofficial Patch
The Skyblivion mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is also slated to be added soon, but it’s still unclear which other mods GOG’s one-click feature will support.
