The MSI CR640 is a desktop replacement notebook with good speed and battery life. It's a good choice for students, families and budget shoppers who want a laptop that will be quick when processing office, Web, and multimedia tasks. It looks nice and has good features (such as USB 3.0), but we wish it had a screen that wasn't reflective and that it had a better touchpad.

Still, battery life is decent for a desktop replacement device. And with a Sandy Bridge i3 processor and the latest Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics, it'll handle most non-intensive productivity tasks and basic gaming just fine.

MSI CR640 review The MSI CR640 is a better-looking laptop than MSI's standard fare, but an unimpressive keyboard and plasticy build rob the laptop of its chance to make an impact among its Sandy Bridge rivals. The bolder design elements, like the speakers and sports car-style power button, aren't bad-looking but they're not worth paying extra for. The design of the MSI CR640, we are told, is inspired by top-of-the-range luxury sedan cars, with the aim of giving the computer ‘unassuming sophistication and beauty'. The reality is closer to a delivery van: large, clunky-looking and grey. The MSI CR640 performed quite well for the price, but its quality and comfort problems let it down.

With its reasonably powerful specification, excellent usability and colourful screen, there's plenty to recommend the MSI CR640. However, if you need something to carry around all day, this isn't the best option.

2.6 kg:
With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
2.6 kg:
66.86%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
