Oppo has unveiled a new smartphone called the K13x 5G. The device is available in several colors and a total of three configurations. These only differ in terms of LPDDR4X RAM capacity, with is either 4, 6 or 8GB. At 128GB, the internal storage is not particularly large, but it can be expanded via microSD.
The K13x supposedly offers a more robust design, even though it doesn’t look like a full-fledged rugged smartphone with visible reinforcements. With a weight of 6.8 oz and a thickness of 0.31 inches, the handset isn’t too big and comparatively light. It also comes with an IP65 rating, so it's protected against dust and water to a certain degree. The phone should also survive drops from certain heights.
Additionally, the cheap Oppo smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300, which is certainly not a top-tier SoC. The Chinese manufacturer has also opted for a 6.67-inch TFT display with a resolution of 1604 x 720 pixels, refresh rate of 120Hz and a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i.
That said, users should lower their expectations when it comes to the cameras. There is a 50MP main camera, a secondary 2MP lens and a 8MP selfie camera, but no ultrawide or even telephoto camera. Biometric unlocking via a fingerprint sensor is supported, as is the use of two SIM cards. Prices for the Oppo K13x 5G start at the equivalent of roughly $139, but the phone is only available in India at the time of writing. There’s no info on whether the affordable Android smartphone will launch in other markets later on.
