HTC announces a June 16, 2020 launch event, could be for Desire 20 series
HTC could be said to have all but fallen off the smartphone radar at this stage. Nevertheless, recent leaks have pointed to the possibility that it may yet throw its hat into the 5G and mid-range rings in 2020. The OEM has finally announced that it will confirm this, along with other rumors, during an event planned for later this month.
The Taiwanese company broke this news via its official Instagram channel. It has also posted a new promotional image for the launch, which distinctly appears to show 2 different phones or variants that may make their debut on the stage in question.
Conversely, HTC has become linked to only 1 potential release as of late. A growing body of leaks indicate that it is to be called the Desire 20 Pro, and will be powered by the Snapdragon 665 SoC with 6GB of RAM (and may also have a headphone jack).
Therefore, the second phone could be a vanilla Desire 20; however, the prevailing rumors do not appear to leave much scope for properties that support 5G in this mix.
Finally, the new HTC teaser includes 1 more interesting detail: a Vive logo tucked into one corner. Therefore, the OEM's upcoming mobile devices may have some special, possibly even exclusive, tie-in with this XR platform.
