Gothic: The remake of the 2001 RPG classic is now available for pre-order
Gothic was released by Piranha Bytes in 2001 and, as one of the first true open-world RPGs, still holds a firm place in the hearts of gamers today. There was great joy when publisher THQ Nordic announced a remake of it in collaboration with the Spanish developer studio Alkimia Interactive.
For a long time, it was unclear whether the game would actually be released. But now we know that the Gothic remake is coming - and it won't be long at all. The game is in the final development phase and can already be pre-ordered on Amazon for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC. However, apart from a price guarantee (60 euros for all platforms), pre-orderers will not receive any bonuses.
Old game with a new look
Apart from the ending, the story is largely based on the original. The biggest change is probably the improved graphics. The Gothic engine, which has not aged particularly well, has been replaced by Unreal Engine 5. Gothic fans can therefore look forward to a real feast for the eyes.
15 percent larger map
20 years ago, the open world of Gothic seemed huge, but rather small by today's standards. In the remake, there should be a little more to discover. The new Mines Valley will be 15 percent larger. For example, the large mines will be a little deeper and the forest near the swamp camp will be a little more extensive.
Many small changes
In addition to improved graphics and a larger open world, the Gothic remake will undergo a number of small improvements. The user interface is to become more modern, but will be based on the original interface. The combat system will be similar to the classic Gothic, but will be supplemented by a side step for dodging. Magic balancing will also be improved.
Improved game ending
One point of criticism of the original game is the somewhat rushed ending. The last act is said to have been revised for the remake.
