Google throws stones with new Pixel 5a 5G advert without mentioning the same shortcoming of the Pixel 6 series
Google has published a new advert for the Pixel 5a 5G, despite the device's limited availability. Titled 'The Circle Comes Full Circle, with the new Google Pixel 5a with 5G', the video carries the following caption:
Calling this perfectly-symmetrical, technological marvel, a "headphone jack" may feel like an understatement...but technically, that's what it's called, so... fair enough. Behold! The Headphone Jack, on the Google Pixel 5a with 5G.
The video also has a voiceover that may sound similar, if you are an Apple fan. Undoubtedly, Google is poking fun at Apple, and Jony Ive, the company's former Chief Design Officer (CDO). Apple removed the headphone jack from its smartphones as of the iPhone 7 series, which it announced in September 2016.
Ironically, Google dropped the headphone jack with its second Pixel smartphone a year later. While the audio jack returned to Pixel smartphones seven months later with the Pixel 3a series, Google's flagships have made do without a dedicated audio output from the Pixel 2 series onwards.
Ultimately, Google's latest advert mocks itself, having followed a trend set by Apple. Sadly for some, the headphone jack will not be returning as of the Pixel 6 series, either.
