Google has once again spoiled its own surprise by leaking upcoming Nest devices through its own app. The Google Home app briefly listed setup options for three new wired models: the Nest Cam Indoor (3rd gen), the Nest Cam Outdoor (2nd gen), and the Nest Doorbell (3rd gen). The accidental reveal was first spotted by Android Authority before the entries were quietly removed, suggesting Google moved quickly to patch the error in some regions.
The hardware itself is not dramatically different in design from earlier models, but earlier leaks by Android Headlines point to a couple of upgrades inside. All three devices are expected to record at 2K resolution, a step up from the 1080p limit of the current Nest lineup. Features tipped to arrive include digital zoom with cropping, high dynamic range support, and expanded three-hour video previews in the Google Home app. Each device will also reportedly store at least one hour of video locally, giving users a safety net if Wi-Fi goes down. These are wired-only models, a shift from Google’s earlier push into battery-powered units, which may disappoint some users who preferred the flexibility of wireless installation.
Google is also expected to refresh the lineup with new colors. The indoor camera is tipped to come in Snow, Berry red, and Hazel, while the outdoor camera may come in Snow and Hazel. The doorbell could launch in Snow, Hazel, and Linen. The Berry finish is a bold addition compared to the more muted tones of past devices. Internal codenames also surfaced in the leak: “ustica” for the indoor camera, “lionesa” for the outdoor version, and “rhodes” for the doorbell.
Google’s Gemini AI will replace Google Assistant in the new hardware, marking the company’s push to unify its smart home ecosystem under Gemini for Home. This includes new AI-powered features such as Daily Summaries, which can generate a quick overview of key events captured during the day. The subscription service supporting these devices is also changing. Nest Aware is being rebranded as Google Home Premium, with reports suggesting an additional “Advanced” tier is under consideration, bundling extended recording features and Gemini functionality.
It has been four years since the Nest Cam line received a proper refresh, leading some to question Google’s commitment to home security devices. The company’s latest moves indicate it is far from stepping away. In fact, alongside the cameras and doorbell, a Gemini-powered smart speaker is also expected, although it did not appear in this particular leak. Google itself has teased the event, posting “Gemini is coming to Google Home” on X and directing users to return on October 1 for the full reveal. Pricing and release dates are expected to be confirmed then, but thanks to these leaks, the core details are already out.
