The Gigabyte MO27Q2A is a new gaming monitor that has now become available in first European countries for prices around €569. The price tag already makes it relatively clear that this is not an IPS or VA screen but a QD-OLED panel. According to the manufacturer, the monitor has a refresh rate of 280Hz and a gray-to-gray response time of 0.03 milliseconds. AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and G-Sync are supported. Furthermore, VESA ClearMR 15000 certifies a sharp picture quality in fast-moving scenes.
More importantly, the 27-inch panel has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, which means that this gaming monitor won’t be as sharp as 4K competitors, but the 1440p resolution is still very popular with gamers. The hardware requirements for running games at this native resolution is also much lower compared to 4K. Either way, the typical brightness of the Gigabyte MO27Q2A is 250 nits or up to 1,000 nits for a small 3% window. According to the manufacturer, the screen meets the requirements for VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 and has a color deviation of Delta E < 2.
The remaining feature set is also extensive. An audio system with two 5W speakers is included, as is a USB hub with a KVM switch. Desktop PCs, laptops and other devices can be connected via HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4 and USB Type-C. However, the QD-OLED gaming monitor can only deliver 18 watts via USB PD, which is usually not enough to properly charge laptops or even run mini PCs. Lastly, Gigabyte’s new 1440p monitor can be tilted and adjusted in height for better ergonomics.
