From laptops to gaming handhelds to smartphones, an increasing number of devices use USB-C for charging. As a result, consumers often find themselves surrounded by several chargers, quickly leading to overcrowded and messy-looking desks. The Genki Moonbase aims to address this exact issue.
This Genki power strip features a built-in GaN charger with four USB-C ports, capable of supplying up to 240 watts to devices. The most powerful port has a max output of 140 watts, enough to charge even a 16-inch Apple MacBook Pro (around $2,250 on Amazon). When all four USB-C ports are in use simultaneously, two of them will output up to 100 watts, whilst the other two are capped at 20 watts, which is nevertheless still sufficient for charging smartphones and many tablets.
Besides the USB-C ports, the Genki Moonbase also comes with three sockets, which are equipped with lighting for enhanced usability in dark spaces. The colour of the lighting can be customised using a dedicated button on the side of the power strip. Genki also plans to offer a variant with European sockets, but the company will only do so if at least 240 people order the EU version of the Moonbase. Otherwise, European backers of the Indiegogo campaign will receive a refund.
Price and availability
The Genki Moonbase power strip is currently crowdfunding on Indiegogo, where you can preorder a unit for an “early bird” price of $88 plus shipping costs and taxes. The price will later increase to around $119. The product is expected to start shipping in April 2025. As is usual with crowdfunding campaigns, there is a possibility of shipping delays.
