Garmin is preparing to introduce a new update for older high-end smartwatches. To be distributed across the Fenix 7 Pro and associated smartwatches, the update will be the result of recent beta development that has now reached Beta Version 23.24 with a fresh round of bug fixes.

Garmin has returned to the Fenix 7 series with a new beta update, almost two weeks after the company delivered Beta Version 23.22 for the same smartwatches. As we discussed earlier this month, Garmin had hoped to have ended v23.xx development with Beta Version 23.18, which it transitioned to its stable software brand in mid-September.

Seemingly, bugs that shipped within System Software 23.18 forced the company to return to beta development, first with Beta Version 23.22 and now with Beta Version 23.24. For context, Garmin claimed to have introduced four bug fixes with Beta Version 23.22. By contrast, Beta Version 23.24 is said to bring another three bug fixes to the table, including a pair to prevent unexpected shutdowns from occurring.

Specifically, Beta Version 23.24 should resolve shutdown issues that could happen when editing an activity's settings or when configuring a watch face. Moreover, the new update fixes an issue that resulted in Tide Alerts displaying incorrect data. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen when Garmin plans to transition these bug fixes to new stable software for the Enduro 2, Epix 2, Fenix 7, Fenix 7 Pro and the Quatix 7, as well as the Marq Gen 2 and Tactix 7 that are not included in this beta round (curr. $963 on Amazon). The full changelog from System Software 23.18 to Beta Version 23.24 is as follows:

  • Fix a potential device shutdown when updating software.
  • Fix an issue where IR SOS messages would sometimes be divided amongst several threads.
  • Fix an issue where the device could not cancel an IR SOS message.
  • Fix an issue where the satellite notification would not get shown on the activity stage page.
  • Fixed an issue where the device would sometimes shutdown when configuring a watch face.
  • Fixed an issue where the device would sometimes shutdown when editing an activity's settings.
  • Fixed an issue with Tide Alerts displaying incorrect data.
