Eurocom announces a new 15.6-inch laptop
The highly configurable 15.6-inch machine uses Nvidia's GeForce GTX 960M graphics and a Full HD IPS display.

The Canadian laptop manufacturer Eurocom announced another new model today, the Shark 4. Most components can be configured while ordering, the graphics card being the only exception: only Nvidia's GeForce GTX 960M with 2 GB GDDR5 VRAM can be installed. This should allow most modern games to run in medium to high details in the native resolution of the laptop's 15.6-inch display - 1920x1080 pixels (Full HD). Eurocom caters to both matte and glossy display fans: the former can select AUO's B156HAN01.2 panel while the latter will be served with LP156WF4-SPU1 from LG Display. Both panels are based on AH-IPS technology and offer the contrast ratio of 700:1. Up to 3 active displays (internal and/or external) are supported at once.

Though the processor is also up to the buyer's choice, there isn't a considerable difference between them: the Intel Core i7-4720HQ is merely 100 MHz faster (base and Turbo) than the i7-4710HQ. Here are the other specifications:

  • RAM: 8 or 16 GB DDR3L (1600, 1866 or 2133 MHz)
  • Primary storage (SATA 2.5"): HDD (500 GB 7200 RPM, 1 TB 5400 RPM or 500 GB 5400 RPM with 8 GB SSD cache) or SSD (various models with capacities from 100 to 1000 GB available)
  • Secondary storage (replaces optical drive): same options as primary
  • Tertiary storage (M.2 2240 slot): SATA or PCIe x2/x4 SSDs with capacities from 120 to 512 GB
  • Interfaces: 4x USB 3.0, VGA, HDMI 1.4a, mini-DisplayPort 1.2, 6-in-1 (SD/MS/MMC/SM/CF/MD) card reader, gigabit Ethernet, separate 3.5 mm audio jacks for headphones and mic, S/PDIF
  • Communications: Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (M.2 2230 slot) - 802.11n or dual-band 802.11ac (with Wi-Di if Intel 7265 module is chosen); WWAN-ready (empy M.2 3042 slot with pre-wired antennas)
  • Security: fingerprint scanner, TPM 2.0, Kensington lock slot
  • Misc: Full HD webcam (30 fps), backlit keyboard
  • Operating system: 64-bit Windows 7 (Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate) or 64-bit Windows 8.1 (standard or Professional) or no preinstalled OS
  • Battery: 6-cell, 65 Wh
  • Weight: 2.5 kg

In its most basic configuration, the Shark 4 is available for just $865. The price will increase depending on the chosen components and can easily exceed $4000 if several high-end SSDs are installed. The laptop can be configured and ordered directly from Eurocom immediately. Warranty extensions and multiple accessories such as external optical drive, adapters, converters and graphic tablets can be bundled for an additional charge.
