In a statement on Weibo, XPeng remarked that the automotive industry has lacked impressive innovations for some time. The company included a link to Huawei Qiankun, which responded by tagging XPeng in a post with the message: “See you tomorrow, Xiaopeng Motors”.
Livestream on 5 June
XPeng and Huawei are collaborating to integrate an innovative augmented-reality heads-up display (AR HUD) into XPeng’s vehicles. The technology is set to be unveiled on 5 June at 2:30 PM CST during a launch event with the tagline “Light Chasing Panorama” (link to livestream). Both companies remain tight-lipped about the specifics of the new system.
Essentially, a standard HUD projects critical information, such as the current speed and range left, into a driver’s field of view. An AR HUD takes this further. For example, it can show drivers the correct lane to follow by making guidelines appear as overlay on the road.
Huawei already has prior experience in automotive sector
Besides being known for its smartphones and networking technology, Huawei also offers automotive solutions. One notable example is the Advanced Driving System (ADS), currently at version 3.2. Depending on configuration, ADS enables autonomous driving, though a driver must still be present in the vehicle.
Huawei’s ADS requires less data compared with other systems, relying on LiDAR sensors and cameras to detect humans, objects and other obstacles.
On a related note, Huawei has also announced a launch date for the Pura 80 Ultra smartphone. More details are available in this article.
