A beloved PS1 classic may be making a comeback. According to leaker eXtas1s, developer Toys for Bob is working on a new entry in the iconic Spyro platformer series, expected to be revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8, 2025. Spyro 4 is reportedly in development and could launch on Game Pass on day one.

He was a standout of the PlayStation era in the ’90s and remains a cult favorite among 3D platformers to this day: Spyro the Dragon. As the iconic purple dragon, players dash, jump and glide through vibrant worlds, rescuing dragon friends, collecting gems and roasting mischievous enemies with bursts of fire.

Originally a PS1 exclusive, the three titles in the 3D platformer series were successfully remastered in 2019 as the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. The collection has garnered over 12,500 reviews on Steam, 93% of which are positive – reflecting its warm reception among both longtime fans and newcomers. The trilogy is currently available on Steam at a 65% discount, priced at $13.99 instead of the regular $39.99. This offer runs until June 6, 2025 – a good time to revisit Spyro’s adventures or explore them for the first time.

Spyro 4 could be unveiled at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase

According to recent rumors, Spyro 4 is set to be revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8, 2025. The claim comes from well-known leaker eXtas1s, who shared the news on his YouTube channel Fake Insider. He reports that the game is currently in active development and may debut with a first teaser trailer during the event.

There’s also speculation that Spyro 4 could launch directly on Xbox Game Pass and release for PlayStation 5. What makes the rumor even more intriguing is the claim that the project is being developed in close partnership with Xbox – despite Toys for Bob becoming an independent studio again in early 2024. The team was previously part of Microsoft following the Activision Blizzard acquisition. If true, this would suggest that the collaboration continues even after the split. Adding fuel to the rumors, the Spyro trademark was renewed in April 2025, sparking further fan speculation.

By the way: Alongside Spyro 4, rumors also point to a new project from Double Fine Productions, the studio behind Psychonauts. While details remain scarce, the prospect of a fresh title from the acclaimed developer has sparked excitement among fans of quirky, story-driven games.
