In an interview with IGN, the VP of Technology at CD Projekt Red (CDPR) noted that the hardware performance of Nintendo Switch 2 might be comparable to the PlayStation 4, but with support for modern technologies, the gaming handheld can surpass PS4.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to be released on June 5, 2025, and Cyberpunk 2077 will be one of the first AAA titles that will be available for the gaming handheld at launch. In an interview with IGN, Charles Tremblay, the VP of Technology at CD Projekt Red, shared some insights on the handheld's performance while talking about the new version of the game.

Charles shared that the development of the Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 port started in the Summer of 2023, and the team had to make many engine-level changes. These changes were necessary because the gaming handheld used a different architecture than the x86.

When speaking about how the game may run on the Nintendo Switch 2, Charles noted that it's already known that the hardware performance of the gaming handheld is comparable to that of the PlayStation 4. However, Charles highlighted that the support for Nvidia DLSS will allow the device to surpass the PS4 in terms of quality.

Besides support for modern technologies, Charles says that the increased amount of RAM compared to the PS4 is another driving factor. This, combined with the fact that the gaming handheld doesn't rely on a mechanical drive, is said to allow the Switch 2 to run Cyberpunk 2077 better than the PlayStation 4.

Of course, it's worth noting that the Cyberpunk 2077 for Switch 2 isn't identical to the PC version of the game. There are many visual tweaks made specifically to ensure that the gaming handheld can offer an enjoyable experience (JSAUX 2-pack anti-glare screen protector for Switch 2 curr. $8.99 on Amazon).
