BYD is not slowing down when it comes to performance EVs. As revealed by new filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the carmaker is releasing a Track Edition of the Yangwang U9, which is twice as powerful.
The U9 Track Edition features a 744.57 hp electric motor on each wheel, resulting in a total output from the powertrain of 2,977 hp. This more than doubles the power from the original U9, which maxes out at 1,287 hp.
For context, the tri-motor Tesla Model Y Plaid has a peak power of 1,020 hp and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 1.99 seconds, edging out the original Yangwang U9 by more than one-half of a second.
Designating the new U9 as Track Edition means BYD is making changes to the body to achieve better aerodynamics. It will also use more powerful brakes that can contain the immense power and ensure safe deceleration.
BYD is likely to utilize its new high-speed motor technology, which exceeds 30,000 rpm. The automaker has already used them in the Han L EV and Tang L EV, which were released in the second quarter of 2025.
The filing reveals the new Yangwang U9 supercar will have 20-inch wheels, a carbon fibre roof and rear wing, and a rear diffuser with adjustable blades. Customers can optionally upgrade with a carbon-fibre front splitter and electric rear wing.
Other specifications include a top speed of 217 mph. The car sits on a 114.2-inch wheelbase and measures 195.5 inches in length, 79.9 inches in width, and 51.6 inches in height.
