Ayaneo has been quite busy these past few weeks as it is working on several gaming handhelds. There's the dual-screen Pocket DS as well as the Pocket Fit and Pocket Fit Elite from its new sub-brand, Konkr. It also has a vertical gaming handheld known as the Pocket Vert in development and another device currently referred to as the Ayaneo Code R or Ayaneo Code R-1.
According to the manufacturer, the Code R is a retro handheld device that will be “affordable, refined, and unexpectedly exceptional”. It is also described as the first product in Ayaneo's brand-new entry-level lineup. This lineup is different from Konkr which is a line of high-performance handhelds with an affordable price tag. Code R, on the other hand, is an entry-level product. Now, it has revealed what the device will look like.
The design of the handheld was shared in an official post, and it shows an outline of the handheld. Based on the image, we know the Code R will have a 4:3 aspect ratio like the Anbernic RG477M and the Retroid Pocket Mini V2 (available on Amazon for $229). The outline also shows that the handheld curves inward and has a pair of shoulder buttons.
In addition to the design reveal, Ayaneo also dispelled reports that the Code R will have the same display as the secondary screen on the Pocket DS. As a matter of fact, the display is said to be smaller than 5 inches. And while it is expected to be cheaper than the Konkr handhelds, there are speculations the Code R might cost between $150 to $200 and not under $100 like the Mangmi Air X.
No other details have been provided but trust Ayaneo to drip-feed us more info about the handheld as time goes on.
