The TUF Gaming series of laptops is a midrange gaming offering from Asus and we recently reviewed the current version of the TUF Gaming A16. It basically uses the familiar chassis from last year, where the base unit is made of plastic combined with an aluminum lid. The chassis quality is completely okay and we particularly like the hinge calibration. You do not get any flashy illumination elements, but this does not have to be a disadvantage. Thanks to the restrained design, you can actually use the TUF Gaming A16 in more professional environments as well.
Inside of the chassis, there have been some changes. One major issue we had with the previous version was the soldered memory, which was unnecessary for a large gaming laptop. Asus fixed this issue with the 2025 model and you now get two SO-DIMM slots, so it is very easy to upgrade the RAM. Combined with the two SSD slots (M.2-2280, PCIe 4.0), the maintenance options are very good.
The second new addition is the display. While the previous model we tested was equipped with a mediocre 1080p screen, but now you get a higher resolution WQHD panel with 165 Hz and G-Sync support. The matte IPS screen offers good image quality and the factory calibration is already very good. Thanks to full sRGB coverage, it is no problem to edit pictures/videos. Sure, the image is not as nice compared to OLED screens, but there is no PWM flickering in return. With a combination of G-Sync, the high frequency and the fast response times, the IPS screen is a very solid choice for gaming.
