If a smartphone hotspot isn't enough, mobile routers from various manufacturers can be found on Amazon and at other retailers. These routers can provide internet access to numerous devices on the go. With the RT-BE58 Go, Asus is now offering a new product in this category that is also suitable for regular use at home.
It measures only 3.9 x 4.4 x 1.4 inches and comes with two external antennas, but does not support cellular connections on its own. On the go, it relies on USB tethering from a smartphone, but can also be used in WISP mode in public networks to create a private hotspot. The router is also usable at home and can be connected to a modem via Ethernet.
This is a WiFi 7 router that does not support the 6 GHz frequency band. The advertised data transfer rates are up to 688 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band and 2,882 Mbps on the 5 GHz band. The Asus RT-BE58 is powered via USB Type-C, which means it should be usable in conjunction with a power bank.
While the WAN port has a bandwidth of 2.5 Gbps, there is also an Ethernet port with 1 Gbps. Moreover, the Asus router can be used as an access point, repeater or part of an AIMesh network. The RT-BE58 Go itself is apparently able to cover an area of around 1,800 square feet, and it supports simultaneous connections to over 150 devices. It can also create an additional network for iOS devices, kids or customers in a store, for instance. Pricing or availability details are not available at the time of writing.
