For months, rumors have claimed that Apple’s iPhone will receive a fundamentally revamped user interface with the update to iOS 26, which supposedly takes some design cues from visionOS. Sebastiaan de With, one of the co-founder of Lux, has now published a series of mockups that illustrate how the user interface could change with the upcoming software update for Apple smartphones.
These mockups are based on rumors, so there's no guarantee that they accurately reflect the final design of iOS 26. The final version will likely be unveiled at the WWDC press conference on Monday, June 9. Nevertheless, these mockups illustrate how iOS 26 could get significantly more depth and transparency. App icons look as if they are made of frosted glass, with softly illuminated edges creating a three-dimensional look.
The well-known menu bar at the bottom of the screen detaches from the device's edge and now hovers above the content. Buttons are illuminated from the top left and cast a corresponding shadow that clearly distinguishes them from the background. Pop-up windows are also transparent, allowing the background to remain visible.
Glassy materials are intended to give the user interface a more dynamic look, as shown by the image of a video player, where the glass progress bar reflects the colors of the content. Designers can use glass to reflect, refract, or blur light to achieve a variety of visual effects, all of which could seamlessly integrate into iOS 26.
